Gollum
Gollum as depicted in Rankin/Bass Productions 'The Hobbit'[1]
"Gollum is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. He was introduced in the 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit, and became an important supporting character in its sequel, The Lord of the Rings. Gollum was a Stoor Hobbit[1] of the River-folk, who lived near the Gladden Fields.[2] Originally known as Sméagol, he was corrupted by the One Ring and later named Gollum after his habit of making "a horrible swallowing noise in his throat".[3]"[2]
Gollum is also the name of our computational resource. As with the J. R. R. Tolkien character and its various depictions in media, caution must be taken when dealing with Gollum because it is not clear whether it is here to help or hurt you.

Storage
- Local - Each node has an internal disk on the order of 400GB for use as scratch space. The scratch space is accessible via the environment variable ${SLURM_LOCAL_SCRATCH} and is deleted on completion of the job. Scratch spaces are not backed up.
- Lustre - Each node has access via 1Gb Ethernet to a 38 TB Lustre filesystem. The Lustre scratch space is accessible via the environment variable: ${SLURM_REMOTE_SCRATCH} and is deleted approximately 10 days after a job completes. Scratch spaces are not backed up. More information about Luster can be found here.
- Home Directories - The cluster currently has over 572TB of storage in the home directory pool which is available to the nodes via 1Gb Ethernet.
- Tape - Home directories are backed up to a near line 600 slot tape storage system.
Infiniband
- Nodes in the brooks, frank, wymore, twentycore, and gpu partitions have access to FDR Infiniband. More information on Infiniband can be found here.
